Texas Independence Day Celebration

TID 2016

The Texas A&M Club of Maryland will be celebrating their 6th annual Texas Independence Day on March 5, 2016 at Urban Bar-B-Que Co., Linthicum, MD.

The club uses this event as a fundraiser to build Endowed Scholarships (501c(3), tax ID #42-1665624), sending Maryland students to college.  This event attracts more attendees and donations each year, so we depend on the support of our local alumni and friends in the business community, supplying us with exciting silent auction items.

All Texans (and Texans at heart) are welcome, so feel free to invite your friends and family! (Tickets Sales will open in the near future.)

If you would like to ask some of your favorite places for items to donate to the Silent Auction please use the form attached here. We look forward to seeing you all and to some great items up for auction.

#GivingTuesday

Loyalty, Integrity, Excellence, Leadership, Selfless Service, and Respect

These values bond every Aggie and today you can join the movement and give back.

With only one day left until #GivingTuesday, we want to make sure you’ve marked your calendar for this national day of giving!

#GivingTuesday is a simple concept. Thursday, we give thanks. Then follows Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. #GivingTuesday, is your day to give back.

So far the Club has raised $13,000 toward an endowed scholarship.  If every member of the Club (600) gives $20 to pay it forward we will reach our goal of endowing a scholarship to support a student from Maryland to attend Texas A&M.

Help us make it possible for another Aggie to reach Ring Day and to contribute to our world like all Aggies do.

Saturday Dec 12th, Wreath laying at the Baltimore National Cemetery

Saturday Dec 12th, Wreath laying at the Baltimore National Cemetery, 11:30AM, 5501 Frederick Ave, Catonsville, MD 21228

There is a scripted memorial ceremony that lasts about 30 minutes. After the scripted portion is completed, everyone moves to the section where the wreaths will be placed. Make sure you are dressed for the weather as we lay wreaths that day in the sun, snow, rain and freezing temps – just like the mail man! When we get to the placement portion of the event, there will be three staged photos for the event and I want to get one of us as a group.

Your support is needed as there are many gravesites at Baltimore National Cemetery; not only is it one of the oldest National cemeteries, it is also one of the largest with over 44,000 gravesites.  Unfortunately, they were only able to place the wreaths that had been purchased and that number has dwindled the last three years to where only 250 of our veterans were remembered last year.

Even if you are not attending, If you want to help us, please encourage your family, friends, co-workers to make a wreath purchase.  Click Here

Tickets Closed – Bonfire Saturday Oct 10th, 2015

Butlers

Saturday October 10th, Aggie Football bye week is our Bonfire and Hayride.

We will be returning to Butler’s Orchard again this year.  They did change their reservation system and will not allow us to pick our spot as we have in years past, they will now assign our spot to us the day of the event.  So please do not just show up to the previous spot.  🙂

The hayride begins at 6:15 pm sharp, the ride will not wait for anyone. All guests should meet at the Farm Market parking lot at 5:45 pm. Latecomers will miss the hayride. We will drive our cars to the bonfire location together.

Over the past few years, we have had many people bring unique sticks to roast their hot dogs. The fire is VERY hot and wire hangers have not worked too well in the past.  It is recommended that roasting sticks be a few feet long at least.

BYOB:  The club will provide water, but please feel free to bring any alcoholic beverage or sodas of your choice.

What to Bring: lawn chairs, blankets, flashlights, roasting sticks, and anything you wish to share with the group (chips, side item, dessert).  If you have a portable table, please feel free to  bring that along also.  We only have one picnic table available for the whole group.

Club will provide: plates, cups, napkins, water, hot dogs, buns, condiments, marshmallows, graham crackers, and chocolate bars.

Note:  The bonfire does not come with an outhouse as Aggie Bonfire traditionally does.  Anybody who wishes to bring a homemade outhouse for the bonfire may do so.

Farmer’s Market:  Arrive early to visit the Farmer’s Market for some pumpkin butter, jellies, fresh fruits and vegetables and other yummy treats.  Or come early to pick-your-own pumpkins.  The Market closes at 5:30 pm, but normally stays open until 6 pm in October.

Tickets are $20 for Adults and $10 for Children (10 and under). Deadline to purchase tickets is Wednesday, October 7, 2015.

To purchase tickets, click on the drop down and select an option and then click on “Add to Cart”. This will bring up the PayPal shopping cart, with this option pre-filled. Message from the Prez July 26, 2015

The annual BBQ and Toys for Tots drive was a success and we look forward to seeing y’all again real soon.
First off a big THANK YOU to Mike and Donna for the beautiful location for the BBQ, and opening up your home to us. We had 24 aggies from around Maryland representing class years 1947 thru 2011.
There was so much food left over, did you guys eat at all? Thank you to everyone for all the beautiful side dishes, so much amazing home cooking.
We brought in some great toys for our Christmas in July Toys for Tots drive (15 toys will make some area kids happy this year). What a great way to help our communities. Thank you all again for being great Aggies.

Gig’em
David
